Film screening in the Vojvodina PUB!
A three-part documentary series will be launched on the stories of Hungarians in Vojvodina. For the first time, the document film "The Brigade" will be presented.
I'm talking about the movie. The Petőfi Brigade was a military group of Hungarian peasants and workers from Vojvodina for just six months during World War II. It consisted of about 1,500 people who were sent to the Slavonia front without weapons and proper equipment. According to the official explanation, their aim was to fight Fascism together with the rest of Yugoslavia's nationalities. At the same time, according to some opinions, the Yugoslav partisans practically used them as a ball catcher, in this way trying to punish the Vojvodina Hungarians as a retaliation of the Novi Sad raid.
This evening is the first screening of the three-part series, which provides an insight into the fate, standing and little-known chapters of history of Hungarians in Vojvodina.
